He brushed one of his fingers past his sleepy right eye, and with the look of a surprised boy he saw the miracle which the over-and-down tree had left him the night before. At the very end of the ridge, just under its lowest branch was an exact copy of the over-and-down tree, but it wasn’t even bigger than his backpack! The man jumped into the air shouting and laughing and saying, “Thank you, my friend!” and during his dance of thankfulness he saw not one, but a dozen other different little trees all around him and the over-and-down tree. At that moment he came to a halt and cried tears of joy, because while he knew that while couldn’t take the big over-and-down tree with him to the people of his village, and he couldn’t take the mountain, his luck has changed! Now he could pry these little trees out of the earth, which they so desperately need, and put them in his pack filled with soil. He knew that this was the right thing to do because the over-and-down tree promised him that if it could grow in a little hollowed ridge filled with soil, these little miracles would be able to do the same.
