Forest on an old roofing tile

Forest on an old roofing tile

Everybody has them, old concrete roofing tiles (pictures 1 and 1a). They lie around your house, just waiting to be used, in case there is a broken tile somewhere on the roof that has to be replaced. Usually, you use those spare tiles once or twice in the time you occupy the house.

Maybe something can be done with such a tile, for instance: planting a nice little bonsai forest (Yose-Ue) on it?

To prepare the roofing tile for planting, it has to be worked on. With a power tool, an angle grinder with a diamond cut-off blade, the top lip will be removed, as you can see in pictures 2 and 2a.

For drainage, four holes of 12 mm have to be drilled. Next to these drainage holes, 5 or more holes of 4 mm are drilled, to be used for wire to fix the trees on the roof tile. Here the drainage holes are covered already with plastic mesh. (pictures 2 and 2a)
