The third season of the popular fantasy-adventure Yu Yu Hakusho begins with the conclusion of the "Dark Tournament" storyline, as Yusuke dukes it out with the mighty demon Toguro the Younger. Toguro morphs into an over-muscled monster who makes the Incredible Hulk look scrawny; Yusuke unleashes his incredible spiritual power. Their duel takes almost five episodes to reach its conclusion. The "Dark Tournament" saga felt a lot like a Dragon Ball Z adventure, with characters screaming challenges, ramping up their powers, and punching each other through stone walls. And like Dragon Ball Z, the tone was light enough that no one really minded if characters who were killed in action didn't stay dead. But as the new "Black Chapters Saga" story arc gets underway, the tone of Yu Yu Hakusho grows darker and more violent: humans are being tormented and slaughtered, not just bizarre-looking demons. Koenma summons Yusuke to resume his duties as Spirit Detective. Humans in one part of Tokyo have begun manifesting strange and dangerous spiritual powers, including creating weird alternate dimensions or "Territories." Working with the deformed Toguro the Elder and six recruits, Sensui, Yusuke's predecessor as Spirit Detective, is building a tunnel between the Human Realm and the Demon Realm. Repulsed by the cruelty he witnessed on the Black Chapters, a Spirit Realm tape of humanity's evil deeds, Sensui has decided to destroy mankind by unleashing monstrously powerful demons. Naturally, only Yusuke and the members of Team Urameshi can prevent this disaster. (Rated TV PG, suitable for ages 12 and older: violence, violence against women, grotesque imagery, profanity, alcohol and tobacco use.) --Charles Solomon

5 out of 5 stars It's Yu Yu Hakusho I Mean Come On!!!   December 17, 2008
well basically this is the continuation and resolution of the dark tournament finals and then the story of the previous spirit detective turned rogue. if you're a fan of yu yu hakusho why wouldn't you get all four seasons. if you're looking for an anime that is big on fighting, comedy and are not afraid of some coarse language this is for you. i not only recommend this set but the first 2 and the coming 1 on jan 13, i already have it pre-ordered. yu yu hakusho is one of the best animes because it actually has a storyline and plot that have you wanting more and because it is action packed as well. get the whole set, you wont be sorry

5 out of 5 stars Love it   December 17, 2008
I love this series and I like the fact that the dvds are uncut, I get to see the parts they didn't show on cartoonnetwork

5 out of 5 stars The Beginning of the End   December 6, 2008
The season 3 box set starts off with the remainder of the Dark Tournament as Hiei has an extremely destructive and entertaining battle with the powerful Bui. Then Kuwabara has a rather strange fight with ELder Toguro with Kuwabara defeating him in a very improvised way. Then comes the final duel between Spirit Detective Yusuke Urameshi and his Demon nemesis Younger Toguro who gives Yusuke the fight of his life. The battle is raw and violent however finishing in a quiet graceful manner. After Toguro is defeated everyone resumes their usual lives but Yusuke is then taken hostage by 3 teenagers with strange psychic abilities, this however was just friendly training as a new threat emerges that has been hiding in the shadows for some time. A group of 7 psychics wants to bring in the age of Apocalypse for the human race and have demons storm the living world in mass through a permanent tunnel connecting the two worlds. The leader of this movement is former Spirit Detective Shinobu Sensui who has gone renegade. Despite Yusuke's immense power Sensui renders Yusuke completely useless and outclassed with Sensui powering up to S class beyond anything Spirit World can handle and mere minutes from having a stable tunel into the demon world. Yusuke will also have to face death a second time as the fallen hero claims his life in battle and his friends although powered with motivation have little chance to even survive an encounter with the renegade spirit detective......All in all the final of the dark tournament is very entertaining and fun to watch to top that off you are introduced to the most viscious of all the villains in YuYuHakusho (Never satisfied Never full They eat with grubby hands until nothing is left but piss)-Shinobu Sensui who gives the YYH gang the worst beating of their lives and then some. The Chapterblack saga is without question the best of all the sagas and you get to see it begin here.

4 out of 5 stars The Dark Tournment becomes alot darker   November 30, 2008
The Dark Tournament isn't close to over, with Yusuke's team still in a heated battle with Toguro's. Soon Yusuke goes one on one with Toguro in a fight to the death.

Yu Yu continues with the brutal action and the tournament ends pretty well. My only problem is the final battle. The fight with Toguro seemed a little bit rushed and just uneven to me. I guess it's because alot of the earlier battles were so good. Still, overall it is satisfying. The next story that takes place begins a bit slow and I actually considered stopping at one point. But man, it does pick up again. A new set of villians are introduced, and they have some amazing talents that are very well used.

Even though this series runs a bit formulaic. The way the stories are told keeps it from being boring. When it picks up, it doesn't really stop. And skill wise, some of the characters continue to evolve. The animation is still the same with no improvements at all. The soundtrack on the other hand gets better. There are new end songs after every several episodes.

Yu Yu still continues to move in the right direction with the plot developing nicely. I really see no reason to stop if you made it this far. Season 3 contains episodes 57-84.

5 out of 5 stars Me   October 18, 2008
This Series is great, and now it is getting into the most exciting seasons.
I most definately think you should buy SEASON 1,2,3, and 4 when it comes out.
This is one of the best series EVER created.
