Good Idea, But No... May 17, 2004 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
What's unfortunate about this book is that it had the potential to be good, a chance at providing real insight into the Japanese psyche. Fields, an Australian resident who grew up in Japan seems qualified to attempt such a work. However, the book falls flat. The dustjacket summary and title are misleading as the book is written solely from the viewpoint of business and sales, which isn't even alluded to on the cover. This could be overlooked if that were a fulfilling aspect, but even that is not very substantial. I came away from this book with a few anecdotes about how not to market Western goods in Japan, and that's about all. I wouldn't reccomend buying this book for general insight, OR business acumen.
