Product Description A new and exciting approach to basic Japanese for young adults The Association for Japanese-Language Teaching (AJALT), renowned for its Japanese for Busy People series, has developed a comprehensive course for teaching Japanese to young adulsts in English-speaking countries. Japanese for Young People is a new three-level series designed primarily for junior-high and high school curricula encouraging systematic Japanese-language acquisition through an enjoyable but structured learning process. With an emphasis on coordination of structure and verbal communication skills, this second Student Book introduces more building-blocks of Japanese grammer through Key Sentences, Dialogues, Exercises, and Tasks. This Student Book is accompanied by a set of three cassette tapes and a fully-illustrated Kanji Workbook which features over 100 pages of activities and games to familiarize young students with ninety of the most basic Chinese characters introduced in this book. good value and fun to use February 14, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This workbook is nicely laid out and has plenty of exercises (though for some quizzes you need to refer back to the text which I didnt buy). I have Tuttle's "Kanji and Kana Handbook" and was learning kanji from that but it was sooo boring so I ordered this to motivate myself. Since I already knew all 100+ JLPT4 kanji before this arrived, I'm using this to review stroke order: this workbook actually //shows// the strokes being drawn in succession instead of simply numbering them as most adult texts do. If I had bought this workbook earlier, it wouldve saved me a lot of time when learning those first 100 kanji. My main complaint: the artwork is downright ugly and they shouldve included more kanji and less quizzes.
On a tangent ... with this workbook as a stimulus and White Rabbit Press kanji flashcards, students should be able to recognize at least 25 kanji per day. Writing the characters over and over again (using correct stroke order) further cements them into memory. Really wish they would make a workbook for all the 1945 kanji required by the Ministry of Education.
I'm using AJALT's Japanese for young People, and I like it August 23, 2000 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I'm a student taking Japanese, and I really, really like these books. They're very interesting and in full color. The illustrations and everything about the book is great! I think anyone could learn Japanese through these books!
someone who wants to learn Japanese, Get this series August 23, 2000 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I think that the Japanese for young people series is a very great series. I am learning Japanese and I really like these books. They are not just normal textbooks, with word after word after word. I WANT to sit down and study Japanese with these series, and I think that anyone will too. These books help you communicate in Japanese to other people very well for a student. The illustrations are very nice too.
