Product Description Floating on Evening: Songs From Otter River is a deep acoustic ambient set from Coyote Oldman. Michael Graham Allen is the principle flute player for the duo and he makes all of his own flutes. Barry Stramp is an electronic wizard and his recording techniques and innovations give this soundworld a synthesizer feel. Thus, while the compositions are decidedly influenced by Native American heritage, they also have an e-music appeal. This CD has huge atmospheres and deep soundscapes. Allen's soulful flute serves as a drone; Stramp's wizardry creates the atmospheres. Deep listeners will join this duo for a lazy float down the river. The delicious melodies of Allen's flute are the perfect vehicle. There is no boat -- the floating is done in the air and on the water. The meditation is effortless and rejuvenating. This is classic Coyote Oldman music. It will appeal to fans of Douglas Spotted Eagle, R. Carlos Nakai, Spirit Nation, and Little Wolf Band. - Jim Brenholts, All Music Guide

Dynamic gentleness, soothing as a canoe ride. December 15, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Floating on Evening has always been one of my favorite Coyote Oldman albums. The plaintive cedar flute floats above tasteful piano or guitar. CO's pure, vulnerable sounding flutes are comforting and soothing. Not to say the playing his weak. In fact, several songs here have a feeling of a great jazz or classical musician exploring the limits of the instrument. Exciting. As a massage therapist and a flute player I find I never tire of hearing the dynamic gentleness of Floating on Evening.
music from the soul August 3, 2004 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
As a long time fan of Coyote Oldman, and fellow composer/N.A. fluteplayer, I appreciate this work on many levels. This is an intimate album without much of the sonic processing found on other Coyote Oldman recordings. The beautiful flute melodies are supported by simple piano and guitar accompaniment. The pieces have a tender, sweetly sad feeling while at the same time a beautiful uplifting spirit. Truly one of Michael Graham Allens finest works in my opinion. This album comes from his soul and touches me deeply every time I listen to it. Wado Michael.....

Coyote Oldman has once again produced an amazing collection! This cd will transport you to the Otter River ~ tranquil flutes soothe the aching body and the overstressed mind. Play this at dusk - light a candle and just let yourself follow the melodic trail. You won't be disappointed.
