20 STARS
Simple Review - WOW November 7, 2008 Yes Jon Anderson is out there, but yes jon anderson got this stuff recorded. There is not much to say that other reviews haven't. So I will just say: To me these "sounds" tickle my dionysian pleasure spot between my ears, without being overworked pop tune lines.
jon anderson's best! July 30, 2008 This is an amazing solo album! The sound textures and muli-tracking are pure ear candy. This would make a great "C.G." movie. The story of the origin of man as told by the best rock vocalist of the prog. rock genre! {that is of course, in my opinion}. This recording sends shivers down my spine and gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. I was so happy when it came out in the CD format because I had worn out the grooves on two copies I had before it! -Jon and YES are the best! -jason s.
One of the first New Age Music albums? February 10, 2008 This album has a great story concept, with cool organic artwork. It's more of a mood and tone poem than a rock album, but be sure to listen in stereo. The opening song played on a sunny day in the wintery mountains ... bliss! One wonders if Vangelis worked on some of these with Jon.
What was I thinking? December 30, 2007 I bought this album when it first came out. I didn't care for it much. I think I was disappointed that it wasn't YES. Well, duh, it wasn't YES, it was Jon Anderson. I played it about 10 times and decided it was just OK. Hadn't played it in 25+ years. Yesterday I watched a YES concert DVD and was not only moved by Anderson's vocals but by his unselfish and loving personality. For some reason his solo album came to mind. I couldn't even remember the name of it. I dug through my stacks of vinyl and finally found it. Olias of Sunhillow. Wow. What was wrong with me? This is a musical treasure. I have difficulty believing that he played every instrument. When he strums a guitar with YES he looks pretty lame, but I guess with guys like Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman etc. he can be allowed to concentrate on vocals! If he really made this album solo then I am amazed. If not I am still amazed and grateful for his creation. I just started it up again for the 7th or 8th time in 2 days. There are a couple of 5 minute segments that are just fantastic!!
