Fantastic Music!!! September 4, 2008 I bought this CD long time ago before I got the chance to study shakuhachi with sensei Yoshizawa. I can listen to this music over and over and never get tired from listening. This is not just music, this is an experience! I highly recommend it!!
Perfect for Relaxation. June 1, 2008 I own a day spa and also work as a massage therapist. It is one of my therapists and clients favorite cd's. I also gave a copy to my yoga teacher and he uses it weekly. It is total chill music, nothing fast. Beautiful.
A Zen Garden you can bring anywhere! December 31, 2007 As a musician and a fan of Asian culture (especially Japanese), I find Zen Garden by Kokin Gumi simply outstanding and one of my favorite CDs. The blend of traditional with modern is superbly done. I keep a copy in my car to help me remain calm on what might otherwise be stressful drives to and from work, and another copy to listen to while working or just to relax at home. It's not "background music" nor is it intrusive -- simply an audio "ki" ("chi" in Chinese) that becomes part of the fabric of my day. I'd love to hear more from Kokin Gumi.
It really takes you to Kyoto! May 22, 2007 I have bought many CDs with Asian melodies, and this is one of my favorites. Listening to it from beginning to end really takes me to Kyoto, Japan, the mecca of zen gardens and ancient Japan. I had never heard of Kokin Gumi before my purchase, and they do such a great job of bringing out the beauty of the various traditional Japanese instruments. My favorites tracks are "Flower" and "Birds." Finally, it is a great CD to have playing in your car during long, stressful drives. Buy it, you won't regret it!
Music for Tai Chi accompaniment August 31, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Kokin Gumi CD, along with portions of music from The Last Samurai movie score, provides a metronome to Tai Chi practice, slowing the heart, breathing, movements, bringing rhythm and poise to the day. Kokin Gumi is musical insulation from jumping "monkey mind" moving into a soothing more mindful repose. Restores body's natural balance in thoughts, decisions, actions.
